Why Learning At Tuition Centres Is Better Than Learning Online

October 14, 2020
Science and Technology has exponentially redefined the world, and our educational system has experienced some of these changes as well. The introduction of technology in the educational system has brought about new models of learning and new learning behaviour among students and across several learning centres.
One of such innovation in the educational system is the introduction of online classes and online learning platforms. Though, online learning became more popular during the first and second quarter (Q1 and Q2) of 2020, as the global pandemic forced schools to take their lectures online. Online learning however, lacks competitive advantage over the traditional learning system (that is, learning in the classroom or at tuition centres).
Though the introduction of online classes has some advantages, it just lacks basic features that makes the learning process effective. There are however, several reasons why online learning platforms are not as beneficial as the classroom, face-to-face learning process. Here are two reasons why learning at tuition centres or at classrooms is better and more effective than learning on online platforms.

One: Effective Communication

At the center of every learning environment is effective communication and that is one major advantage learning at tuition centres or in a classroom has over learning online. Learning at tuition centres offers a face-to-face interaction between tutors and students unlike learning online. This however, makes the classroom learning environment more effective than learning online as the online learning process lacks interpersonal skills development.
Feedback is another important aspect of communication that is fully enabled in a classroom learning environment, as it enables students to have one on one interaction with tutors and gain clarity on complex subjects. The learning environment is not effective if feedback and interpersonal development are not enabled or delayed, as it is an indispensable aspect of the learning process.
A recent survey¹ that gather the opinions of 85 business leaders and top executives, revealed that an overwhelming number of top business leaders and executives affirmed that the top two competencies they look for from graduates are teamwork and effective communication skills. And this is exactly what learning at tuition centres offers and develops in students. Findings from this study further reinforce why learning at tuition centres is better than learning online, as learning at tuition centres improves students interpersonal relationship skills (teamwork) by encouraging regular and unrestricted communication.
Since the classroom learning style does not rely on networks, students have access to hours of uninterrupted learning experience, unlike learning online.
When comparing traditional learning style with online learning, it is no doubt that the classroom learning style enables and improves effective communication better than learning online.

Two: Learning Motivation

While communication is at the center of the learning process, learning motivation is what powers the entire learning process. Without learning motivations from students there is no way the learning process will be effective.
According to a survey² by National Research Council on learning motivation, findings from the study revealed that almost half representing 40% of high school students are chronically disengaged from school as a result of lack of motivation to learn. Findings from this study only further reinforce the importance of motivation in the learning process.
One major issue with learning online is that most participants often lack the motivation to learn, as they get assignments done whenever they feel like, unlike when students receive face to face verbal feedbacks and constructive criticism in a classroom learning environment. The presence of learning motivation in the face to face learning process makes it more effective than learning online, as feedbacks are delayed or not given in most online learning process. As a result, there is no much pressure and motivation to learn while studying online because there is no tutor to ask for an immediate feedback. However, learning at tuition centres provides constant motivation, engagement, pressure, and instant learning instructions from tutors to students.

Final Thoughts

Both online learning and traditional learning style have its unique features and advantages, but when considering which is more effective especially for child development, classroom learning at tuition centres has most of the advantages and benefits.
